25 years ago: The man who taught David Hockney and other top Bradford artists had his moment of glory. Five days before his 70th birthday, Frank Johnson had his own paintings hung alongside those of his former pupils at Bradford’s Cartwright Hall, which he described as his second home.
50 years ago: An appeal for £10,500 was to be launched in Pudsey to purchase, equip and modernise a house which was to be turned in a residential centre for the blind.
