From the Telegraph & Argus of September 22, 1981...Around 50,000 fish are thought to have died after being poisoned by a toxic chemical. The fish have been found in a two-mile section of the River Calder at Brighouse. Anglers have said years of hard work have been ruined and believe the damage could total £15,000. The Yorkshire Water Authority has been examining samples to locate the source of the contamination.

Immediately after her marriage to Colin Beevers at Gomersal Parish Church, Mary Wood went to West View Methodist church to offer her congratulations to Mary Firth and her new husband Terence Westerman.
