From the Telegraph & Argus of September 14, 1981...A Denholme slimming club has come to the aid of a young neighbour in style. Dorothy Lee and her slimming world club raised £560 at a bring and buy sale last week. Roy Ettenfield, 21, of William Street, is paralysed from the neck down. Roy, who broke his neck and spine in an accident four years ago, is looking forward to the day when he can obtain a possum' machine which would enable him to perform simple day to day tasks.

From the Telegraph & Argus of September 14, 1956...Highlight of an exciting week in the mountains came last night for 16-year-old Bradford boy Peter Ellis when he met Sir John Hunt, leader of the 1953 Everest expedition. Peter, of Thornton Road, is on a YMCA venturer course in Mountaineering camp craft and leadership at the YMCA national camp in Windermere.
