Taken from the Telegraph & Argus of May 22, 1981 - Work at the Inland Revenue Commuter Centre in Shipley ground to a halt when 30 people who stayed at work during trade union strikes failed to cross the picket line. Liz Symon of the service union said action at Shipley had so far prevented £3.86million reaching the exchequer.

Taken from the Telegraph & Argus of May 22, 1956 - A lace-maker has learnt skills which usually take a lifetime to perfect in just a decade. Edward Lee of Manor Park in Burley-in-Wharfedale took up embroidery, tatting and tapestry when an accident made him lame. And when a friend encouraged him to take-up lace-making he relished the challenge. Usually a lace-maker takes a lifetime to perfect one pattern. But Mr Lee has mastered several styles and hopes his well-made pieces will last well into next millennium.
