A Yeadon man was said to be well today after becoming Britain's latest heart transplant patient. Alexander Watson, 53, of Whakhouse Lane, Yeadon, was in a satisfactory condition at Harefield Hospital in Middlesex.
He was rushed to the hospital six hours before the operation, carried out by surgeon Madi Yacoub and a team of doctors.

Yorkshire is having its worst weather conditions since 1947, according to the RAC. Snow, ice and fog caused traffic delays in many parts of the country and in Bradford 800 men and more than 120 vehicles were employed in keeping the roads open. In Bradford last night temperatures of minus six degree Celsius was the lowest for nearly two years, when it was minus 10 degrees Celsius.
