A strange orange ball slightly tapering at the edge flew over Bradford city centre yesterday. Michael Brett, 26, a builder of Larch Drive, Odsal, saw the object move in the district of Lidget Green towards Bradford. The RAF are playing host to a Nato flying exercise this week, but a spokesman said they had no aircraft over that area that night. And Leeds Bradford Airport said they had no movements over that area at the time.

14-year-old Robert Lister of Highfield Lane, Keighley, was presented with a Royal Humane Society's Certificate for rescuing a girl from drowning in the River Aire. The eight-year-old girl, Andre Jacqueline Moor, who is from London, had been staying with relatives in Keighley and had fallen into the river on June 12 last year.
