25 Years Ago: The BBC had refused to comment on reports that Radio 5 was being axed and replaced with a continuous network of news and sport. The Board of Governors did however confirm that a meeting had been planned to discuss the possibility of an all-news station.
50 Years Ago: More than 100 drivers employed by Manningham’s transport contractors, Henry Long, staged an unofficial strike in support of a wage increase. Immediate efforts had been made to settle the dispute, but the haulage drivers vowed to continue until a decent offer was brought to the table.
