25 Years Ago: A blind pensioner had fought for his life after being jumped on and attacked by two muggers for the sake of £2. The 82-year-old ex-boxer form Clayton was on his way to his local shop just 400 yards from his home in Terrington Crest, when the attackers struck.
50 Years Ago: Barry Watson, the Crossflatts champion channel swimmer, had left Dover in readiness for his attempt on the two-way channel swim from England to France. Barry, who currently held the 9-hour 35-minute world record, if succeeded would become the first Brit to do and the third in the world.
