Firemen rescued a cow which fell down a well. It took nearly an hour to free the cow at Corn Hill Piggeries in Chat Hill Road, Thornton. Farmer Ronald Rayner said he was baffled how the 18-month-old south Devon cow came to fall down the well, leaving only its head sticking out of the water.

Keighley's oldest twins celebrated their 85th birthday. Elizabeth Gregson and James Hartley lived together in Prospect. Apart from one brother, Jonas Hartley, they had outlived all their seven siblings.
