25 years ago: Housing chiefs at Bradford Council said £100,000 was to be spent installing smoke detectors in more than 5,000 flats on the Woodside Estate, in the wake of a horror blaze which claimed the life of a toddler.
50 years ago: Alderman Jack Wilkinson, newly installed as the Lord Mayor of Bradford, said the district was booming due to the amount of building schemes in the pipeline, citing developments such as new law courts, a central library, fire station, and four new schools for the city.
