25 years ago: Labour seized control of Bradford Council from the Tories in a result hailed by jubilant party officials as a resounding vote of no confidence in the community charge, or poll tax, with new leader Phil Beeley declaring City Hall would become a "People's Palace."
50 years ago: Police in Bradford hoped new legislation would reduce the amount of metal theft across the district, which had risen by 300 per cent in the past year, with even itinerant collectors such as rag and bone men now having to keep records.
