25 years ago: A 12-year-old boy was hailed as a hero by firemen after he helped lead six children to safety from a burning house. Ernest Cawdron was playing hide and seek upstairs with his friends at his home in Grayswood Crescent, Holme Wood, when the fire was spotted by his brother. Ernest guided the children, all aged under ten, through thick smoke and out of the house.
50 years ago: A policemen told Bradford Quarter Sessions that his shoulder was dislocated after a 21-year-old professional gambler had caught him by the arm and swung him across his body on to the ground. The court was hearing the appeal against the conviction of Les Hilton, of Bradford, jailed for six months for assault, wounding and resisting a police officer in the execution of his duty.
