25 years ago: Councillor Phil Beeley, who had led the Labour party on Bradford Council for the past seven years, announced he was standing down due to a new law meaning he would have to give up his job as an anti-privatisation adviser with Wakefield Council if he wanted to remain a candidate.
50 years ago: Bradford Council's Public Works Committee were set to decide whether to allow betting shops for the first time on three estates across the city, Holme Wood, Newall Street, and Otley Road.
