25 years ago: A fleet of seismic survey lorries were searching for underground oil on a snow-clad Ilkley Moor, the first stage of exploration work by the London-based company Teredo Petroleum, with Ilkley Parish Council warning the discovery of oil could "turn the Dales into Dallas".
50 years ago: Dr E G Edwards, principal of The Bradford Institute of Technology, entered an official planning application for the new University of Bradford in Listerhills, with the 56-acre site, costing between £13 million and £15m, set to cater for 5,000 students by the mid-1970s.
