25 years ago: Bradford hairdresser Trudy Baxter, 19, missed death by seconds after her Mini was crushed by a falling tree outside her Eccleshill home, as hurricane-force winds hit the district as part of one of the worst storms to hit Britain in the 20th century.
50 years ago: Leaders of Bradford Chamber of Trade told members that the city would fall into decline unless more space for parking was provided, saying motorists were being encouraged to "speed through the city rather than stay and add to its prosperity".
