50 years ago: Two climbers claimed to be the first men to make the ascent of the frozen waterfall at Cautley Spout, West Riding. Ernest Leach, 53, of Shipley, and James Holmes, 20, of Bradford, said it took three hours to scale the near 350-feet sheet of ice.
