From the Telegraph & Argus of November 10, 1956...Bradford's Cleansing Department has completed, after 26 years, the controlled tipping and levelling of land adjoining Bradford Grammar School and the Finance Accounts Sub-committee has asked for a report from the city engineer, the Director of Education and the Parks Superintendent about the further use of the land. About 500,000 tonnes of household refuse has been tipped in 337,350 loads. Bradford was the pioneer of controlled tipping, which was for Odsal stadium, and is resulting in level stretches of land up and down the city that will be invaluable for playing fields.
