Earlier this summer, we appealed for information about Bradford comedy singing duo the Two Tommies.
The pair, Tommy Cunliffe and Tommy Harper, used to perform in clubs in the 1960s, after meeting at East Bowling Working Men’s Club.
A miner at Gomersal Colliery, Tommy Cunliffe was a tenor known as the ‘singing collier’, while Tommy Harper was a seasoned club comic and magician.
Both Tommies have sadly died, but following a recent appeal from reader Eric Brook, who used to drive the comics to gigs around the district, we heard from Linda Cunliffe, the widow of “Little Tommy” Cunliffe.
Now we have heard from Paul Harper, the son of ‘Big Tommy’ Harper. “I also work as an entertainer, singing in the clubs keeping my dad’s name going,” says Paul.
We also heard from Ann Langton, whose father James worked at Gomersal Colliery on the same shift at Tommy Cunliffe. “He knew him very well,” says Ann, of Bierley .
Watch this space for more of their memories about the singing duo.
