A fascinating book about the working life of Yorkshire has found its way to the Remember When? desk.
Entitled, suitably, Hard Graft: Yorkshire At Work, the handsome hardback coffee-table book comes courtesy of The Dovecote Press, based in Dorset.
It is penned and researched by Cleckheaton man Terry Sutton, and it’s obviously something of a labour of love for him.
Terry, born and bred in West Yorkshire’s industrial heartland, has grafted himself for seven years putting this book together.
It really is worth the wait. Not only has he discovered and selected a wonderful array of photographs to illustrate his subject, he’s also rolled up his sleeves and provided illustrations himself.
Terry is an accomplished artist and his work completely complements the gritty realism of the photographic record.
Hard Graft: Yorkshire At Work is a thorough read on top of that, and will keep anyone interested in the social and industrial history of the White Rose county rapt for some time.
A good job, well done.
Hard Graft: Yorkshire At Work, is by Terry Sutton and published in hardback by Dovecote Press, priced £20. Log on to dovecotepress.com or call (01258) 840549.
