This "lost" bowls trophy, which vanished for the best part of a century, resurfaced only five years ago, nicely in time for this week's centenary of the Lister Park Bowling Club. It will be presented by the Lord Mayor to the winner of a competition being held in Lister Park tomorrow between noon and 5pm.
Club president John Allwood said the trophy, is in the form of an inscribed jack. On the silver plate it says: "Presented by the Bradford Parks Committee to Alderman H S Wright, chairman, on the opening of the bowling greens, May 18, 1906."
The trophy turned up in 2001 after there was publicity in the T&A about the improvements to the park and the building of the bowling club's new pavilion. Someone took it along to the park lodge, saying they'd found it in their attic.
Mr Allwood says: "No-one currently connected with the club can remember anything about this trophy. It seems likely that someone won it long ago and put it somewhere safe as a keepsake. We'd be interested to know more about it."
