Cynthia Trasi, of the Bradford Theosophical Society, whose logo is pictured below, contacted us with more information about cinemas in Bradford.
She writes: “In one of the recent Remember When articles, a contributor mentioned cinemas being closed on Sundays. This reminded me that in the early 20th century, Bradford Theosophical Society on occasions used the Picture House on Thornton Road for Sunday afternoon public lectures by prominent speakers.
“They began in April, 1918, with two talks by Clara Codd, from London. In November that year, she came every Sunday for nine weeks and spoke to audiences of 700, with titles such as Reincarnation: The Hope Of The World, The Other Side Of Death and The Power Of Thought’.”
