Denholme’s Rebekah Tiler has taken gold in the Aviva Sportshall Athletics United Kingdom finals in Birmingham for a third successive year.

The Bingley Harrier won the under-13 girls’ vertical jump for West Yorkshire at the LG Arena inside the National Exhibition Centre with an effort of 70cm, and also took bronze in the eight-lap paarlauf relay with team-mate Amy Pollard.

West Yorkshire’s other under-13 West Yorkshire medallist was Erin Newsome (silver, standing long jump), and she was fourth in the two-lap race, a fate that also befell Ambah Thompson (standing triple jump), Luca Zenti (six-lap race) and the boys 4x1 lap relay.

The best overall team position for West Yorkshire was the fourth by the under-15 boys, equalling their best which was set in 1996.

They were spearheaded by Will Gibson (silver, four-lap race) and the 4x2 lap team of Sam Afari, Edward Saxton, Gibson and Leon Greenwood, who were third, while Harry Ellis was again unlucky to finish fourth in the standing long jump.

Gibson was the highest-placed West Yorkshire athlete in the individual all-rounder competition in ninth.

West Yorkshire also took silver in the under-13 boys’ obstacle relay (Daniel Levitt, Cameron Lake, William Morris and Luca Zenti), with Zenti also winning bronze in the speed bounce.

The under-15 girls’ West Yorkshire team did not qualify for the finals but Chloe Tindale was invited as an individual to compete following her top performance in the speed bounce, where she finished fourth and 15th in the all-rounder.
