With Easter fast approaching, and despite many looking to the London Marathon this weekend, Penistone Hill near Haworth has been the venue for the fast and furious Bunny Run series on Tuesday nights.

These popular races are contested over three miles off-road with 300 feet of climbing.

Entrants also compete for the egg stage prize that goes to first round the initial short lap of the course.

Race one last week attracted 284 competitors, including top local fell running talents.

Calder Valley’s Ben Mounsey took the egg stage but ended up fourth, 33 seconds behind winner Tom Addison (15min 53sec) of Helm Hill.

First junior was under-16 Max Wharton (Calder), holding off James Hall (Wharfedale) by one second, in 16min 50sec.

In the veterans' category, Baildon’s Steve Watkins finished 21st overall, behind Bingley’s Martin Peace. Katie Walshaw (Holmfirth) was first lady, a minute ahead of Salley Morley (Ilkley).

Walshaw’s team-mate, under-14 Olivia Sykes was first female junior home in 20min 33sec.

Race two, in less windy conditions, was won by Tom Adams (Ilkley), who returned from his wedding in Scotland to also set a new egg stage record of 3min 17sec.

Wharton and Walshaw repeated junior and ladies' section wins, and Ian Holmes (Bingley) returned to action to win the the veteran' category in third overall.

Under-14 runner Lewis Byram (Holmfirth) was a remarkable 13th overall in 16min 42sec.

The third and final race of the series is next Tuesday at 7.15pm, followed a week later by an open relay event at the same venue (woodentops.org.uk for details).

Some of West Yorkshire’s biggest clubs made their way to Sutton Park in Birmingham for the ERRA Men's National 12-Stage and Ladies' Six-Stage relays on Saturday.

Mark Buckingham’s fastest time on the first leg couldn’t prevent Holmfirth eventually slipping to 35th overall in the 12-stage race.

In contrast, Leeds City moved through after a slow start to finish seventh with James Wilkinson and James Walsh scoring fastest times on stages three and nine.

In the ladies' race, Emma Raven was Bingley Harriers’ sole representative, managing an excellent seventh fastest on stage one.

Susan Partridge (third fastest on stage three) and Emily Birchall (seventh fastest on stage five) contributed to Leeds City's fifth-place finish overall, with Holmfirth finishing 23rd.
