The Meltham 10K on Sunday attracted a field of 363 runners, including 72-year-old former Olympian Ron Hill from Accrington.
Karen Pickles (Pudsey Pacers) posted a winning time of 39min 24sec in the ladies’ race, just 23 seconds ahead of top over-50 runner Julie Buckley (Penistone FPR).
The traditionally tough course, set in the Pennine foothills was run over a new and faster route which was still challenging.
Veterans Debbie Bland, of Skyrac AC, and Shaun Jordan, of Bingley Harriers, notched up winning times in the the over-55 category.
In the men’s race, the first runner back from a Bradford club was Kevin Ogden (Spenborough AC), who was fourth overall in 36min 34sec, followed around two minutes later by Gary Chapman (Keighley & Craven) and Paul Mitchell (Bingley Harriers) in 14th and 15th place overall.
Will Kerr (Saltaire) leads the way in men’s event wins at the Bradford 5k Park Run, a time of 19min 48sec being enough to land his seventh success, over a minute ahead of Stuart Thompson (Bingley Harriers) and event debutant Steven Banks (unattached).
Baildon Runners were well represented, with their three competitiors in the top ten being led home by Bob Shimmin (21min 24sec) in seventh, ahead of Rick Nottidge and Edward East.
In the ladies’ race, Sue Ransome (Pudsey Pacers), in her first appearance at the event, produced a winning time of 24min 19sec, prior to finishing third over-50 at Meltham the following day.
Ransome was followed home by Steph Wilson, who equalled her course best of 24min 30sec to take second place, while Angela Filko was third.
Ultra-hardy local runners will be bracing themselves for Saturday’s Rombalds Stride.
The popular 23-mile off-road event starts and finishes in Guiseley, via a severely undulating circuit that includes Rombalds Moor, Ilkley and Otley Chevin, in support of the 15th Airedale Scout Group.
