The BRADFORD PARK RUN saw a great tussle for second place as first lady home Alex Becker (Bradford Airedale) squeaked in a second ahead of Bingley Harrier Shaun Jordan.
Both were just over 50 seconds behind Andrew Grenfell, who won Saturday’s race for Rossendale Harriers in 17min 59sec.
Becker’s excellent run meant that Marisol Carrera of Bingley Harriers, the previous week’s winner, had to settle for second in the ladies race, with Rachel Pinder third.
Two newcomers to the event made the top ten in a healthy field of 80 runners, with Bradford Airedale under-19 Usmaan Iqbaal taking ninth and Tom Davidson (unattached) tenth.
Four unattached runners had course personal best times to celebrate, along with a place in the top 20.
David Lord (21:55), Richard Brook (22:32), Ian Jones (22:54) and Dan McKenzie (23:20) improved on their previous efforts.
Paul Martiletti claimed victory in a sell-out field of 1,561 runners in the BRASS MONKEY HALF-MARATHON.
The Londoner (Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets AC) raced round the fast 13-mile route from York racecourse in 65:21.
First back from West Yorkshire clubs were David Turnbull (Holmfirth), who took fourth place in 69:53, and Darran Bilton (Leeds City), who was seventh overall and first male over-45 in 72:23.
A time of 81:46 allowed Amy Green (Keighley & Craven AC) to claim runners-up spot in the ladies race, pipping local rival Sarah Jarvis (Bingley Harriers) by 27 seconds.
Pudsey Pacers, Saltaire Striders and Ilkley Harriers all supplied age-category winners, with Don Stead, Harry McGill and Henry Heavisides taking first spot in the over-70s, over-60s and over-55s respectively.
First back for other Bradford clubs in Sunday’s event were Laurence Doddy (Idle, 89:03), Mick Hogan (Eccleshill, 88:44) and Emma Inglis (Skyrac, 99:57).
