Bingley Harriers’ Jonathan Brownlee is the new county cross-country champion following a dominant performance at the Yorkshire-Humberside Cross-Country Championships at Doncaster.

Brownlee had over 100 yards in hand at the line, winning in 37min 5sec. Second-placed Jonathan Thewlis (Notts) and Rotherham’s Philip Hoole also had a large gap before the rest of the 224-strong pack.

Behind Brownlee, Bingley packed well to finish third team but they missed his injured brother, Alistair.

Stewart MacDonald (24th; 40:35), Tim Midgley (25th; 40:47); Lee Athersmith (31st; 41:15); Stephen Broadbent (36th; 41:29) and James Senior (58th; 43:32) were the remaining counters.

Hallamshire and Leeds City tussled for team gold, with the Sheffield club scoring 70 to win by a 15-point margin.
