Great Britain recruit Joe Woodley continued his fine form with another winning performance for Airienteers.
Woodley, who has been selected to compete at next year’s World Schools Championships in Italy, headed the Hull & Lincolnshire Orienteering Club event at Normanby Hall, near Scunthorpe.
The Guiseley youngster scooted round the 6.29km course in 41min 14sec. Veteran Peter Haines of Ilkley was third in 45.13, while daughter Florence Haines was first woman home in 52.30. Other Airienteers members taking part included Howard Sawyer (65.15), Sarah Haines (70.15), Ken Patterson (73.49) and Gerry Symes (92.01).
Chris March competed round the 3.08km light green course and finished fourth in 60.27.
Meanwhile, Airienteers runners ignored the snow to compete in the latest Saturday O-Lite Series event at Meanwood.
Marie Gibbs was first woman on the 4.5km course, while Dave Alcock and Steve Watkins shared the spoils in the men’s competition, both finishing in 36min.
Neil Conway was third and visiting Australian runner Josh Roberts fourth.
The next event in the series is at Meanwood Park on Saturday and is ideal for those new to orienteering.
A small but strong field assembled at Peel Park for the latest event in Airienteers’ Night Score League.
The format challenges runners to visit as many control sites as possible in one hour in any order, putting a premium on route choice and time estimation.
Leading scorers (point in brackets): Dave Alcock (230), Steve Watkins (220), Ian Nixon (200), Paul Leipins (200), Leon Foster (180), Andis Celinskis (170), Pete Jones (160), Steve Corrigan (York) (150), Ian Marshall (140), Dave Armstrong (130), Jess Nixon (first woman) (130).
The next league event will be at Northcliffe Park on Wednesday, January 12. Details of this and the forthcoming district event at Temple Newsom on Saturday, January 9 can be found at www.aire.org.uk.
