Baildon Runners’ annual awards were presented at their Christmas party.
The eponymous Paul Baildon won the Summer Championship Shield, scoring 94 points in the Premier Division series, after a tight tussle with Lorne McNeill and Bob Shimmin, who both ended on 92pts.
Sue Coates was winner of the First Division trophy.
In awarding the Outstanding Performance of the Year, club secretary Quentin Lewis said: “Our problem was having too many strong performances to choose from.
"There have been so many personal-best times and club age-category records but Sue Coates was first over-60 in the Winter League; Steve Watkins was first over-40 in the RAB Mountain Marathon; Dean Williams recently ran 57 minutes in a tough ten-miler; Liz Caven beat her half-marathon best by four minutes; Nicola Empson raised £3,000 in her first London Marathon; Bob Shimmin achieved a club over-50 age-category record at the Chester Marathon, and Diana Campbell knocked 16 minutes off her Yorkshireman half-marathon time.”
But newcomer Chris Burke received the award for a series of performances, including 64 minutes on a hideously wet and windy night for the Otley ten-miler.
Ian Ferris, messaging from Frankfurt, announced the “Most Improved Runner” award. Ian enthused: “From a non-runner just six months ago, our winner quickly gained running confidence with our Saturday runs, and in the process lost a lot of weight and increased his fitness.
"He progressed to our structured training sessions –including running to the trig point in thunder and lightning, and braving driving winds and rain when most sane people would be staying indoors. He started racing and achieved a succession of 5k bests and improved performances.”
”Following our enhanced training sessions this autumn, our newcomer then ventured onto the fells, tried orienteering and subsequently cross-countries.
"Apparently all this was not enough - and the nominee also introduced me to the delights of Aqua running, 60 minutes of running but going nowhere!”
The winner was announced as Colin Davidson.
The final trophy, the “Dave Turpin Club Member Award” for services to the club, was made to Andrew Travis.
