Pudsey & Bramley had four runners in the top ten of the Holme Moss Fell Race covering 18 miles of challenging terrain around Holmfirth.

Calder Valley’s Karl Gray won the English Championship event on Sunday but Darren Kay led a strong P&B pursuit to finish second, backed up by Rob Hope (third), Graham Pearce (sixth) and Danny Hope (ninth).

In the English Fell Running Championship series, Tracey Greenway of Ilkley Harriers has won the ladies’ over-45 title for 2010.

Borrowdale’s Chris Steele won the Ingleborough Fell Race on Saturday. He had an 85-second gap over Harry Coates (Skipton AC) in 49min 08sec.

Rob Shaw (Keighley & Craven) finished seventh in 51:46, closely followed by Ben Stevens (Ilkley Harriers) and Stephen Brock (Keighley & Craven).

Bingley international Victoria Wilkinson was a clear winner of the women’s race in 54:16, ahead of Keighley & Craven’s Helen Glover and Ilkley’s Sally Morley.

Wharfedale Harriers had five runners in the top eight in Sunday’s Hawkswick Dash fell race: Jack Smith, Bruce Elsworth, Ted Mason, Jonathan Bradshaw and Sam Watson.

They also had the leading junior runners: James Hall (under-17), Will Smith (under-14), Charlie Lowry (under-12) and Logan Hargreaves-Madhas (under-9).

The Harrogate and District Summer Race League closed at Ripon with the traditional handicap race and presentation.

Individual series winners included Josie Hodgetts (Otley AC), first lady overall, Karen Best (Otley AC), first over-35, Val Kerr (Ilkley Harriers), first over-50 and Henry Heavisides (Ilkley Harriers), first male over-55.

Sunday saw the penultimate race in the North Yorkshire Black Sheep Series, the tough Burton Leonard 10K.

The majority is off-road with a notoriously ‘undulating’ start and finish and a ford to cross. The 213 finishers were led home, as usual for the series, by Gary Dunn (Thirsk) but he only beat James Bolman (North York Moors) in the run-in.

Mick Brearley (St Bede’s) tussled with Chris Richardson (York Knavesmire), tracking his fast start and catching him with barely a mile to go. He kicked up the final hill to finish 15th in the race and climb above Richardson to second in his age group.
