Youngsters from Bradford Airedale Athletics Club had a busy weekend, competing in the Bradford Athletics Network’s new sportshall athletics gala on Saturday at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre and on Sunday in the final Peco Cross-Country League race at Esholt.
There, Kieran Hawthorn-Peel finished tenth in the under-11 boys’ race, while Olivier Belcher finished eighth among the under-11 girls.
Both had finished fourth the previous day in the Year Five sportshall competition.
Nathan Markey was best performer among the Year Seven entries, while Alfred Martin and Niall Harrison were runners-up in the Year Five and Year Eight boys’ events respectively.
The cross-country youngsters are drawn from lunchtime and after-school groups recently established at Grove House, Blakehill and Greengates primary schools.
The sportshall athletes come from the indoor athletic club held at Hanson School on Wednesday evenings.
Both groups also draw on coaching support from Eccleshill Road Runners, Bradford Airedale’s partner club in the Airedale Athletics group of clubs. Together they are expanding provision to schools in East and South Bradford.
