Helen Wood was Airienteers’ only winner of a long-course race at the Robin Hood Trophy in Sherwood Forest.

The Addingham runner came home first in the W14 category over 3.7km as Nottinghamshire hosted an event that doubled as the Midland Championships.

Clubmate Ali Wood also had a good run round the Blidworth Woods course to finish runner-up in the 7.1km M55 section, a position matched by Tom Crowther on the 4.7km M70 track.

Shirley Wood ran strongly for third place on the 5.9km W50 course, while on the short courses there were wins for Jack Wood (M21) and Paul Wood (M45).

Other Airienteers results (positions in brackets): M45L: Chris Penny (5th); M55L: Guy Patterson (15th); M60L: Ian Hill (24th); M65L: Fred Ross (20th); W55L: Helen Wood (7th); W60L: Gill Ross (8th); M16B: Mark Penny (2nd), Adam Penny (4th); M70S: Chris March (2nd); W21S: Emily Wood (4th); W60S: Kath Hill (3rd).

Meanwhile, a hardy band of Airienteers took part in the ‘Blodslitet’ (Blood Spiller) event on the limestone fell and woodland of Farndale Knot in the Lake District.

This features a mass-start format, with courses longer than normal.

Nick Jones was 15th on the 9.7km D course, Tony Thornley ran well for fifth place on the 7.7km E track and Eva Watson claimed ninth place on the 5.1km F course.

Airienteers members next travel to Castle Carr, near Hebden Bridge, for a regional event run by East Pennine Orienteering Club. Details of this and other events can be found at www.aire.org.uk.
