BINGLEY Harriers' Matthew Merrick has joined an exclusive club that includes fellow Bingley Harrier, Olympic and world champion Alistair Brownlee, and double Olympic champion Mo Farah by winning the under-15 boys' mini marathon in London.
Matthew, who clocked 15min 01sec, said: "I felt strong and paced really well. He [nearest competitor] went at 600 metres and I remember dad saying 'hold, hold and then go at the end’.
"I saw the finish tape and the gap and let loose, timed to perfection, and afterwards I thought 'Oh no, what have I just done?'."
