FRANK Beresford (Otley AC) won the GUISELEY GALLOP multi-terrain 10K in 36min 8sec.
His only challenger was Harrogate’s Chris Miller but even so he had a 150-yard gap up the final stiff climb through Esholt Woods to the finish. Richard Herrington, from St Theresa’s, was a minute adrift in third.
Will Morris, from Guiseley-based Airecentre Pacers, was a well-earned fourth, while their neighbours, host club Skyrac, will be delighted with the 615 finishers since funds help maintain their clubhouse in Nunroyd Park.
The previous Sunday, a day after the Sefton Park road relays, following several pick-ups across Bradford, a coachload of Saltaire Striders set off for Liverpool.
There were no absentees, despite the clocks changing overnight (apart from the coach driver, who had miscalculated).
It meant arriving with only a half-hour warm-up, and that was all the worse since the on-board toilet was out of action.
Notwithstanding, over two-thirds managed personal bests at the LIVERPOOL HALF-MARATHON. Starting and finishing at Albert Dock, taking in Sefton Park with the final four miles on the river front, it is a fast course.
Marcin Soszka was first Strider of the 6,000-plus competitors in ninth (74min 54sec), holding off club captain Will Kerr by one second.
Soszka built up a 50-metre gap on Kerr during the final mile. Kerr then closed it, but was out-kicked. However, his tenth place was a personal best by over a minute – a mark he set 16 years ago.
Helen Love was third F55 while Stewart Spink knocked four minutes off his previous best to finish in 1hr 34min 7sec.
The Bradford Athletics Network (BAN) Wednesday-night track group saw rewards, not least by stalwart Lindsey Pearson, who notched an impressive new best in 2hr 32min 24sec.
The BAN's enhanced-training programme concludes its 14-week winter block this fortnight. The summer block will start in May – Monday evening strength-and-conditioning sessions at Bradford Grammar School gym, and Wednesday evening drills and speedwork at University Academy Keighley School.
