Bingley Harrier Alistair Brownlee is ready to return to the scene of his greatest glory tomorrow as the ITU World Triathlon series heads to Hyde Park.

The fourth event of this season’s competition is at the venue of the 2012 Olympics where Brownlee won gold.

Brother Jonathan, the bronze medallist, and silver winner Javier Gomez will also be competing and Alistair cannot wait to get back to a familiar place.

“Hyde Park has special memories for me and if we can attract anything like the sorts of crowds we’ve seen previously then it’s going to be a fantastic spectacle,” he said.

The men’s race runs back-to-back with the women’s race over the sprint distance, with British interest in that also high.

Jodie Simpson leads the way currently, with Helen Jenkins in third.

“I’ve been really pleased with how this year has gone so far and I’m just really pleased to be able to train and race,” Jenkins said.

“My training isn’t geared to sprint races particularly, but my plan is to enjoy this one with the home support and see what happens.”

The event will be free to attend and Mayor of London Boris Johnson is looking forward to the occasion.

“I am delighted to welcome thousands of the world’s best triathletes to London for this thrilling sporting spectacular” he said.

“The triathlon continues the legacy of the 2012 Games in bringing top-flight international events here, benefitting our economy as well as promoting the capital around the world.”

The international paratriathlon will start at 8am, with elite women at 2.30pm and men and 4.05pm.
