Britain topped the medal tables in the European Cross-Country Championships in Belgrade last Sunday in a sport it dominated for a century until recent East African supremacy.
But surprisingly no team members were from the traditional Yorkshire hotbed.
However, the final results from the West Yorkshire Cross-Country League show the sport is reviving locally too, with the Skyrac club prominent.
They hosted the final event at Nunroyd Park on December 1, with their own David McNamee winning the senior men's race.
Traditional rivals Holmfirth and Leeds City shared the next seven places. Halifax fell-runner Max Wharton was tenth, ahead of Pudsey & Bramley's Matt Lockyer, Chris Thornton (Skyrac) and Andy Brown (Bingley).
Holmfirth pulled out the stops to defeat Valley Striders to the senior men's team prize. Skyrac were a remarkable third, with Ilkley seventh.
Holmfirth won the senior women's prize too, ahead of Wetherby, Leeds City and Skyrac. Keighley & Craven (fifth), Ilkley (sixth), Wharfedale (seventh) and Spenborough (ninth) also performed strongly.
Skyrac's Laura Kirk was prevented from a club double in the individuals by international Katie Walshaw.
Helen Glover (Keighley & Craven) was a fine fourth, Racheal Bamford (Otley) fifth, Emma Wilkinson (Spen) seventh and Sally Morley (Ilkley), best over-40 again in eighth.
Juniors from these clubs also medalled prominently. Skyrac's under-11s Eva Jones and Ethan Hussey won the girls' and boys' categories, though Jones tied with Lucy Fryers (Keighley).
In the under-13s, Skyrac's Eleanor Jones was victorious ahead of Katie Atkinson (Keighley). Euan Brennan (Ilkley) was third in the boys.
Victoria Merrick (Bingley) was third under-15, just ahead of Ilkley's Sarah Pickering.
Ilkley's under-17 international Lucy Williamson was bettered by Pudsey & Bramley's Rebecca Coope, but Bingley's own international Emile Cairess decisively headed the men's equivalent ranking.
Spen dominated the under-20 subset of the senior race - Emma Wilkinson was first junior lady, and Joshua Woodcock-Shaw and Liam Stedman were the top two junior men.
