Bingley’s men finished sixth in the highly competitive BRITISH FELL RELAYS at Llanberis in Snowdonia.

Lee Athersmith brought the baton round in 14th in the short opening leg, before Rob and Andy Jebb took them to eighth over the two long legs.

Andy Peace passed Calder Valley halfway round the short final leg.

Wharfedale finished tenth, Leeds City 11th and Pudsey & Bramley 13th.

Tom Adams led Ilkley off in third after the first leg (28th at the close), while Otley (50th), Pudsey Pacers (57th) and Keighley & Craven (62nd) completed a race where Dark Peak gained gold and bronze prizes.

In the women’s relays, Jo Buckley helped Calder Valley to seventh, just ahead of Wharfedale. Pudsey & Bramley finished 18th and Ilkley 23rd, while Keighley & Craven missed a marker.

lkley’s Georgia Malir started the national cross-country season with a fine second place over an undulating Bristol course at the BRITISH ATHLETICS CROSS-COUNTRY CHALLENGE SERIES on Sunday.

The junior ladies race was won by under-17 Lydia Turner (Birtley), who broke clear early. Malir was part of a trio of pursuers and finished third, and second under-20.

Steve Watkins (Baildon) and Tom Gomersall (Bingley) camped out to take part in the 2013 ORIGINAL MOUNTAIN MARATHON.

Two days of racing and orienteering, this year around the Brecon Beacons, comprised seven classes of racing, ranked by distance and severity.

Nick Pearce (Ilkley) was also in Wales for the SNOWDONIA MARATHON on Saturday. His 3hr 21min 21sec won him the over-60 category.

Almost 2,000 runners left Llanberis, with a tight finish in the women’s race between Bangor student Sarah Caskey and Cambridge’s Melanie Staley, with Caskey winning in 3:12:17. Keighley & Craven’s Amy Green was a fine fourth in 3:27:54 (chip).

The following day, 180 runners braved the BRONTE WAY in conditions that started in heavy rain, before ranging through hail to bright autumnal sun.

Tim Ellis (Calder Valley) won in 53min 11sec, ahead of Wharfedale’s Sam Watson and Bingley’s Athersmith. Ellis’s club-mate Holly Page was first lady (61min 15sec).
