Shipley-based driver Luke Pinder and Cumbrian co-driver Martyn Taylor secured the 2007 Silverstone Tyres Rally Championship at an action-packed Tempest Rally.
In order to take the championship, the young Yorkshire man had to beat season-long rival Richard Sykes.
After a sticky start on stage one, Pinder moved into an overall event lead and it is thought this was the first time a Ford Ka had ever lead an event outright.
As Pinder backed off to preserve his lead in the stars' championship, the Ka suffered steering and drive train damage but the pair nursed it through to an eventual 19th overall and fourth in the stars' category.
Pinder said: " It was very tense, nursing the car back. We were listening to every slight noise and thinking it was going to break."
