Heaton Tennis & Squash Club played host to a prestigious national junior event at the weekend.

The annual Kia Motors Stanley Cars graded squash tournament attracted a turnout of more than 50 talented juniors from all over the north of England.

Heaton T&SC had two competitors in Connor Braid, in the under-15s, and Will King, in the under-13s.

King progressed to the semi-finals before losing to a hot prospect from Pontefract, Sam Todd.

Head squash pro Ian Woodhead said: “Throughout the day the sportsmanship and attitude shown by the juniors was excellent. Great squash was on show and I think it’s safe to say, the future of the sport looks bright.”

Overall winners of the event were: Under-11 boys, Adam Goad; under-11 girls, Rebecca Wakefield; under-13 boys, Sam Todd; under-13 girls, Aisha Foster; under-15 boys, Stuart MacGregor; under-15 girls, Georgia Webster
