Bradford played host to more than 130 gymnasts from ten different clubs at Saturday’s Rhythmic Gymnastics British Group Championships.

Held at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre, the event welcomed clubs from as far afield as Harverfordwest in Wales and Canterbury in Kent to contest five national titles.

Otley Rhythmic Gymnastics club were also represented on the day, as the competition proved to be a success.

Rhythmic gymnastics in Great Britain is a female-only sport and it will be showcased at London 2012 as part of the Olympic programme.

Competitors work with hand-held apparatus and combine elements of ballet, gymnastics and dance. The victor is the participant who earns the most points, determined by a panel of judges, for leaps, balances, pirouettes (pivots), flexibility, apparatus handling, execution and artistic effect.
