Seventeen-year-old Kirsten Deighton has been called up to the England women’s senior ice hockey team to play in a tournament in Canada.
The Bradford teenager is the second-youngest member of the team and flies out to Detroit from Heathrow on October 15.
After making the short journey over the border to Ontario, the team will play some friendly games ahead of the prestigious four-day tournament.
The other teams competing are from Canada and the USA, including sides from Detroit, Chicago, Buffalo, Indianapolis, Toronto, Windsor and Carolina.
Kirsten – who is currently studying to become a fitness instructor at Bradford College – was a member of the Great Britain under-18 team which won a bronze medal in a tournament in Hungary earlier this year.
The high cost of travelling abroad on international duty means Kirsten is looking for potential sponsors.
