WASHBURN VALLEY FISHERY
Catch details for the week ending August 26 – Day ticket: Fewston 29, Swinsty 9, Thruscross (catch and return) 2. Total fish caught: Fewston 126, Swinsty 20, Thruscross 9. Average per rod: Fewston 4.3, Swinsty 2.2, Thruscross 4.5. The heaviest fish caught was a 5lb 6oz rainbow trout by J Wilson using Good Head Daddy. Fewston and Swinsty: More heavy rain has filled our reservoirs to overflowing and cooler temperatures pushed trout back into deeper water. Now taking sunken Daddy Longlegs and lures. Thruscross: Brown trout taking Heather Fly washed into shallow water.
Catch details for the month ending August 26 – Day ticket, Fewston 99, Swinsty 30, Thruscross 5. Total fish caught: Fewston 450, Swinsty 109, Thruscross 24. Average per rod: Fewston 4.5, Swinsty 3.6, Thruscross 4.8. The heaviest fish caught was a 6lb 4oz rainbow trout by John Passelow using Black Pennell. Fewston and Swinsty: Another mixed month with fish just starting to feed from the surface on dry fly. With more rain and cold water, fish drop into deeper water again. Good fish to be had but hard work. Thruscross: Brown trout still spooky, feeding in the margins. Food now plentiful – Buzzers, Daddys and Heather Fly.
LISTERHILLS AA
Members are asked to respect the privacy of residents in Wharnecliffe Drive. Responsible adult members are required to assist in bailifing club waters. This Sunday’s open match at Rodley is in aid of the RAF Wings Appeal. The River Wharfe was out of condition for the match at Ulleskelf. Only two weighed in – winner E Harrison 3lb 15oz and runner-up D Jackson 8lb 3oz. Odd barbel and perch were the only fish to respond. The draw for Sunday’s match is at 9am by the bridge.
CENTRAL AC
Result of our match at Birkin, Sunday, August 26: 1 J Mountain 36lb 4oz, 2 P Main 35lb, 3 D Cull 29lb 10oz, 4 P Holt 16lb 12oz. Our next match is at Oakland Waters, Gowdall, on Sunday, September 9. Meet at venue 8am, fishing 9am to 3pm. Keep-nets and landing nets are provided.
BIERLEY AC
Last Sunday’s match, fished on the top pond, proved a peggy affair. Mark Shaw in peg one and Trevor Mahon in peg two enjoyed a steady catch rate of small carp and tench. The rest struggled! Result: 1 T Mahon 9lb 9oz, 2 M Shaw 7lb 2oz, 3 D Glenton 6lb 2oz. There is a Captain Mainwaring carp match on the first pond this weekend – 5pm Saturday through 5pm Sunday. Still a few reprobates leaving cigarette butts at pegs – there are bins.
BRADFORD NO 1 AA
Some of the club’s sections of the River Calder are closed on Sunday for the third round of this year’s Calder League. The draw is to be held at the Railway Inn, next to Brighouse Train Station at 9.15am. Beal on the River Aire is also closed on Sunday for an outside booking. Raskelf Lake is fishing very well for F1s, ide and tench on most methods. Cowthorpe and Nun Monkton should be worth a visit for chub and the odd barbel this week. Willow Hall is fishing extremely well for roach, ide and small carp on maggot up in the water, with 20lb nets of roach being reported.
BINGLEY AA
Sunday’s match on the Nidd fished hard but everybody caught and weights were close. 1 C Gallagher 3lb 4oz (including 2lb plus perch), 2 O Hudsmith 2lb 10oz 3 I Needs 1lb 11oz, 4 D Cole 1lb 10oz. The next match is at Sunnydale on Sunday, September 9, draw 9am. To book on contact A Greenwood on 07971-428678. Sunnydale will be closed that day.
