Sunday saw perfect conditions for the 70 anglers fishing the Lower Aire Championship at Beal, Birkin and Chapel Haddlesey. Dean Grace fished feeder and worm to break the match record for the venue with 22 skimmers weighing a combined 51lb 2oz from above the pump house. Andy Miller finished second with 36lb 14oz of bream, followed by Keith Hobson with 20lb 12oz. Some pegs at Beal are closed on Bank Holiday Monday for an outside booking. Shelf Dam is fishing well for bream and roach, on the bottom or up in the water. Weekend night permits are still available for Knotford online and from the ticket and licence secretary for £25.

WASHBURN VALLEY
The heaviest fish caught during the week was a 5lb 6oz rainbow trout by D Jenkins using black buzzer. Fewston: Rainbow trout are still taking nymph and buzzer despite numerous daddy longlegs blowing over the surface. Swinsty: There is a good evening rise as fish feed on emerging fly life. Thruscross: Brown trout are taking fly in shallow water. High wind has made this venue hard work the last couple of weeks. Catch details (week ending August 19) – Day ticket: Fewston 30, Swinsty 11; total fish caught: Fewston 145, Swinsty 41; average per rod: Fewston 4.8, Swinsty 3.7.

If this match is cancelled due to high water levels it will be fished instead on Sunday, September 2. Sunnydale is fishing well for perch and bream but care should be taken as the bank is slippery.
HEWENDEN AC
Last Sunday’s float-only match was won by Bob Greenwood with 10lb 11oz. Second was Nigel Bower with 8lb and Ian Fieldhouse was third with 7lb 2oz.
