Ira Jeffers (Crossgates) won the Whitkirk BC Open title after thumping Harry Seehra (Spen Victoria) 21-5 in the final.
Jeffers may have been one of the outsiders at the start but he was without doubt the outstanding player on the night with the high standard of bowling he produced in all three matches.
He was quick out of the traps in the quarter-finals, racing into a 15-2 lead against Chris Mordue and eventually winning 21-7.
Jeffers’ opponent in the last four was Brian Holdsworth (Dodworth), who had beaten Gary Foulkes (Ossett FH) 21-13.
Again he made a blistering start, surging into a 10-1 lead and never letting Holdsworth back within touching distance as he extended the advantage to 17-6 before eventually taking the game 21-11.
The final again saw Jeffers blow his opponent away with a fast start as Seehra found himself 19-2 down.
The decisive score of 21-5 was harsh after the way Seehra had played throughout the tournament but, having reached the last two Whitkirk Open finals, he will be a man to watch again next year.
