WASHBURN VALLEY FISHERY Catch details for week ending August 5 – Day ticket: Fewston 19, Swinsty 4, Thruscross (catch and return) 0; Total fish caught, Fewston 97, Swinsty 25, Thruscross 0; Average per rod: Fewston 5.1, Swinsty 6.2, Thruscross 0. Heaviest fish caught was 6lb rainbow trout by SJ Volsey, using green montana. Fewston: Fish rising, feeding from the surface, taking nymph and buzzer in calmer conditions early morning. Swinsty: Water levels dropping slowly with trout feeding in shallow margins, taking buzzers. Thruscross: Sedge blowing over the water, tempting wild brown trout into feeding.
KL TACKLE This Sunday is the fifth Tackle Traders Challenge Shield against Eccleshill AS. The first round of this year’s competition is at Brickyard Ponds, Ripon (draw 9am). The KL team is: Scott Dodsworth, Danny Boland, Tim Boland, John Martin, Robert Judson, Alan Copperwaite, Dave Parkinsdon, Neil Harris, Graham Hudson, Kevin Trevors, Chris Dodd, Jack Ferguson.Please can Eccleshill ensure the shield is engraved with last year’s winner. The next KL Summer League match is Sunday, August 19, at Brafferton Ghost Lake (draw 9am).
BRADFORD NO 1 AA Last Sunday saw round two of this year’s Calder League, won by Keith Collinson for Ultimate Barnsley Blacks with 22lb 2oz of dace. Paul Bennett finished second with 21lb, followed by Geoff Scollick with 18lb 12oz – both for Calder 8. The winning teams on the day, both with 37 points, was Mirfield and Calder 8. The next round is on September 2. The River Swale at Maunby is closed on Sunday for a members’ match. Tickets are still available for the Lower Aire Championship at Beal and Birkin from Simon on 01274-571175. Work on the new otter fence at Knotford is now complete and members are reminded that gates must be closed at all times to protect fish stocks. Cowthorpe on the River Nidd is fishing well for chub and barbel, so worth a visit this week.
LISTERHILLS AA After the initial response, the actual attendance for the carp match was disappointing. The winner was E Harrison with 23lb 6oz, best fish 17lb 4oz. R Curley, N Jagger and J Alion all caught carp. From today, the price of junior members books has been reduced to £3. There is a junior match at Pilley’s on Thursday, meet at noon. Entry is free on production of a membership book. The litter bins are to be removed and no litter should be left on site. Several of our members competed in the Veterans National Championship at Peatling Lakes. Our top weight was taken by E Harrison with 20.7kg.
BIERLEY AA Results of the Captain Mannering 24-hour carp match: 1 K Waterhouse 29lb 2oz, 2 P Briggs 18lb 2oz, 3 B Halley 10lb 4oz, 4 D Hunter 10lb 2oz, 5 K Batty 8lb 8oz. Alan Clark kindly sponsored the biggest fish caught. Match proceeds were donated to Marie Cure Cancer Research. There is a match on Sunday on the middle pond (draw 9am, fish 10am-4pm).
BINGLEY AC Sunday’s match on the river Nidd at Goldsborough was won by J Clark with 9lb 2oz of dace. 2 I Needs 5lb 8oz, 3 A Greenwood 5lb 6oz, 4 B Leonard 5lb. The next match was missed out of the yearbook and will again be at Goldsborough on Sunday, August 26. To book on, contact A Greenwood on 07971-428678.
BRADFORD CITY AA Members are now able to drive down the fields to access fishing at Lower Dunsforth. All vehicles must be parked in the parking area to avoid damage from livestock, which are now present in the fields. Brampton Farm continues to produce good catches of roach perch dace and chublett. The small lake at Staveley will be closed on Saturday for the RS Escott Memorial match.
HEWENDEN AC Last Wedensday’s match results: 1 Andrew Healey 2lb 10oz, 2 Julian Harrison 1lb 10oz, 3 Kevin Cardus 1lb 8oz. The next coarse match will be on Sunday, with a 9am draw in the carpark, £10 all in. The away match will be at Raygills on Sunday, September 2. Anyone wishing to fish this match can contact John Duncan on 07879-897710 to book. Places are limited and the price is £16 all in.
