Bradford’s strength in schools’ cycling has again been demonstrated.

East Bradford Cycling Club youngsters took four first places, two second places and three thirds, as well as a team victory, in the British Schools’ Regional Time Trial Championships at Odsal’s Richard Dunn Sports Centre.

Daniel Wilcock and Harry Fox were first and second in the boys’ under-seven race over two miles, while the club took five of the first six places in the girls’ race, with Rebecca Rosser coming out on top, followed by Caitlin Hakes, Laura Asquith, Sally Asquith and Olivia Fox in third to sixth.

Sister Laura and Sally Asquith also took the schools’ team prize for Farsley Farfield Primary.

In the under-nines, Nathan Page, Jamie Asquith and Samuel Hakes finished second to fourth, while Chloe Wilcock won the girls’ event, both held over three miles.

Moving up to five miles, Joseph Lewis, George Southby, Luke O’Connell, Paul Asquith and Aaron Ward were third through to seventh.

The boys’ under-13 ten miles proved more demanding, with Euan Cameron fifth – his first time off the podium in many months – but the club showed strength in depth by taking the next four places.

Hannah Banks followed up her recent roller racing championship by taking the girls’ under-13 crown.

Mike Healey, East Bradford Cycling Club's’s development officer, said: “We try to balance the fun, skills and competitive elements of cycling for our kids, but it’s very satisfying seeing more of our youngsters dipping their toes into racing, some of them for the first time, and loving it.

"And with nine of our members topping the year-long regional schools Best All-Rounder table in their respective age categories, we’re looking forward to the hard and grass-track and circuit-race championships in the next few weeks”.
