Dewsbury Tog's Steve Kosmowsky has been a consistent performer since entering the veterans over-60s.
He is in his second season and has led Yorkshire Veterans' first team with wins in singles and doubles, while on the tournament circuit his ranking will rise dramatically following the Western Masters at Hereford.
In the fourth round, Steve looked to be heading for the exit door when he trailed Dave Crowley from Surrey 10-6 in the fifth game but he rallied to win 14-12.
Next up was top seed Brian Hill from Lincoln, and Steve pulled off another great win at 11-9 in the fifth.
Waiting for him in the semi-finals was his doubles partner Derek Holman from Surrey.
Steve won in straight games for a trio of higher- ranked scalps but he had to settle for runner-up spot as he lost to Dave Welsman from Northampton in the final.
In the Bradford Table Tennis League, three of the top four in Division Two are from Unity, and for the second week running Unity B came unstuck against their clubmates.
After losing 6-4 to Unity D, they suffered the same fate against Unity C.
Dave Rawlins won three for the B team but it was in vain as Mick Craven and Geoff Dunne won two each, Craig Priestley added a single and joined Craven to win the doubles.
Results – Division One: Highdale B 6, Dewsbury Tog 4; Highdale C 3, Unity A 7. Division Two: Unity C 6, Unity B 4.
