Bradford No 2’s snooker side gained a creditable draw at much-fancied Barnsley No 2 in Division Two of the Yorkshire Inter-District League.
Bradford champion Gareth Green got the side off to a great start, winning the first frame aided by a break of 74, but opponent Brett Miller is also a classy player and levelled the match with efforts of 38 and 62.
Anthony Green played an outstanding first frame against another top county player, Shaun Wilkes, to put Bradford 2-1 in front but Wilkes hit back, making a break of 61 to once more level things.
Captain Hanif Rafiq didn’t have things his own way against Paul Dunn and lost their first frame but came back with a strong final frame of the match to snatch a well-deserved draw.
The side are next in action this weekend when they are scheduled to host Brighouse No 1.
Division One defending champions Bradford No 1 are also back in action when they travel to Castleford No 1 on Sunday.
* Clayton Liberal player Jason Murgatroyd had a scare before progressing to the next round of the Bradford Snooker Championships.
Murgatroyd led 3-1 against Chris Hegarty of Windhill Conservative Club before eventually winning the tie 4-3.
In the pairs, Dean Parker and Paul Wood of Laisterdyke WMC won through thanks to a 3-0 victory over Richard Harrison and Daniel Crompton (Harold Club).
Would players please note that the deadline for matches to be completed is Saturday, and results should be forwarded to Richard Bakes (07940-651850) or Richard Hagerty (07740-145777).
* Bradford’s Kevin Firth eased through to the last 16 stage of the English Six Reds Championship at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds, winning his group matches 4-2, 4-1, 4-1, 4-0 and 4-0.
This competition will be concluded in the new year. In the meantime, Firth takes on Matthew Samples in the English Club Players' Championship, where a win would also put him in the last 16 of that competition.
Damian Wilks has a tough tie in the competition, where he travels to Grimsby to face highly-rated Jamie Barrett.
