Boxer Mohammed Nadim is hoping to crown his debut season with success at the Senior Novice Championship.
The Bradford fighter has already clinched the Yorkshire title at 63.5kg during the regional stage of the event, with the national crown the next prize on offer.
Nadim is undefeated in his seven career fights to date, winning five by knockout, and faces Jack McKinley from Everton next.
He said: “I’m kind of the favourite to go all the way, which is nice, and I’m looking good at the moment.
“It would be a major achievement to win it, especially in my first season and without losing as well.
“I got through the Yorkshire stage a week ago and then beat the Midlands champ, who I’d beaten before.
“Now it’s the quarter-finals in Lincoln on Sunday, the semis are in Liverpool and the final is in Portsmouth.
“I’m fairly confident – the rest of the fighters left in have decent records but I’m looking forward to it.”
The 21-year-old’s other major commitment is an accountancy degree at Huddersfield University, meaning he divides his time between hitting the books and hitting his opponents.
His hectic schedule leaves little room for relaxation, with most of his spare time spent at the Platinum Amateur Boxing Club on Manchester Road.
“I’m there pretty much every day. I only really get Saturdays off, and I have a lot of late nights revising and studying.
“It’s hard to fit everything in when you’re tired but I drink plenty of coffee!
“I do a lot of swimming as well, which helps a lot.
“I’m sparring with the pros regularly and that brings you on – hopefully I’ll keep doing well.
“My coach, Alwyn Belcher, has been great. He’s 76 and he knows all about the game – he’s one of the best in the business.
“I have quite a lot on my plate – I can’t remember the last time I sat down to watch TV for half an hour.”
Nadim admits he is still unsure about his future in the sport but says he is pleased with his start.
He added: “I’m on the right track but it’s important I keep progressing.
“Maybe another year or two in the amateur game and I’ll see how it goes.
“It’s like a big rollercoaster at the moment but I am enjoying the ride.
“A lot of people recognise you as well, and that’s nice when people appreciate your hard work.
“They’ll say ‘well boxed the other night’ and it’s really encouraging – it keeps the drive there.”
