Bradford League auditor Peter Worger certainly gave Hermits E value for money as he played a key role in their DIVISION FOUR victory over Fastbats E.
The match became a marathon, with two players in particular getting plenty of table time. Worger managed 19 games in his four sets, while Michael Townend of Fastbats went the distance of 20 games in his night’s work.
Worger beat Townend in his opening win at 11-9 in the fifth, beat Rod Hullah 11-6 in the decider and Allan Jeffery in four games. Kath Manogue added two singles for Hermits, while Townend won two for Fastbats backed up by one each from Hullah and Jeffery.
Hermits led 5-4 when Worger and Manogue faced Townend and Jeffery in the deciding doubles and the Hermits duo snatched victory at 12-10 in the last game.
Hermits A came from behind to register their first DIVISION TWO victory of the season, winning 6-4 at Laisterdyke A.
Fazal Hussain was unbeaten for Laisterdyke, while Peter Holbrook added one win, but new signing Andy Bray from Keighley led all of the Hermits trio 2-1 but lost all three games.
Pete Johnson and Phil Bevan both won two for Hermits and Ian Warner added a single, before joining Johnson to take the deciding doubles.
Thornbury maintained their unbeaten DIVISION FIVE start with a 6-4 victory at Salem.
The hosts led 4-3 as Ronnie Wright won two, with Maurice Smithies and Brian Hall taking one each.
David Wilson showed all his experience to register a treble for Thornbury, Kazim Afzal won two and these two clinched victory in the doubles.
