Dewsbury Sedbergh, who were the Bradford League’s dominant force last season, are not having things their own way this winter.

Sedbergh won the double in 2010-11 without losing a match but it is a different story this time as all the Division One front-runners are beating each other, making for a wide open contest.

The defending champions lost Mark Land to Highdale and Ivan Lewis has not featured for them yet.

Sedbergh have already lost to Highdale A and drawn with Dewsbury Tog, so retaining their title will be a tall order.

Highdale B are among the favourites, with Land alongside Richard Whiteley, and after losing a 6-4 thriller at Dewsbury Tog, they beat fellow championship contenders Police by the same score.

Highdale trailed 3-1 but, thanks to Pete Morgan overcoming both Pete Clarkson and John Chew at 11-9 in the fifth, they drew level at 4-4.

The recovery continued as Whiteley beat Clarkson 3-0 and then joined Land to secure a decisive victory in the doubles.

Dewsbury Tog are top of the table after five rounds but only ten points cover the leading five teams.

Promoted Embassy B won only five sets in losing their first three matches but have since recorded successive big victories over Highdale A (9-1) and stablemates Embassy A (8-2) to move out of the bottom three.
